IND vs ENG 3rd Test Preview
As the second successive England Test tour of India unfolds, the series is poised at 1-1 after two thrilling encounters in Hyderabad and Vizag. The visitors, displaying resilience, managed to level the score after initially falling behind. With the action shifting to Rajkot, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await another round of captivating battles between the two cricketing giants.
HEAD-TO-HEAD TEST RECORD
Both teams have played 133 Test matches against each other to date. India has won 32 of them, while England has won 51. 50 matches ended in a draw. The record in India, especially over the last two decades is heavily in favor of India. England has won just two tests in its last three tours of India and never more than one in a series since 2012.
IND VS ENG TEAM PREVIEWS
INDIA
After suffering a shock loss against the visitors in the first Test match, India bounced back smartly in Vizag to level the series.
The win was powered by some incredible batting performances by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored his maiden international double-century, and Shubman Gill, who scored his first test century in almost a year. The duo retains their place in the squad while Shreyas Iyer, who is suffering from a niggle (reportedly), has been left out.
Virat Kohli too is set to miss this match. Ravindra Jadeja makes a comeback but will play only after being cleared by the medical team. This leaves a gaping hole in the middle order that is likely to be filled by debutant Devdutt Padikkal.
Rohit Sharma’s lean patch will be a cause of concern for the Indian selectors. Coming to the bowling, the team retains Mukesh Kumar and Mohammed Siraj in the pace attack.
They will be led by an indomitable Jasprit Bumrah, who continues to impress the fans with each passing match. Akash Deep, who was a part of the Asian Games winning squad, has earned his maiden Test call.
Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravichandran Ashwin are the 3 spinners available for selection.
If Jadeja is available for selection he walks into the team and then India will have to choose between the all-round balance of Axar Patel or the wrist-spin wicket-taking abilities of Kuldeep Yadav. Sarafarz Khan will also be hoping to get a chance in the middle order for this match.
We could also see KS Bharat make way for Dhruv Jurel. It is not often that you see so many changes in a lineup between Tests, especially for the home team.
ENGLAND
Despite the loss at Vizag, England is unlikely to change its batting approach for this match. There are some positives that the team will look to build upon and earn a better return in this game.
Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope will be the key batsmen for them in this match. Crawley was particularly impressive in the last match as he scored 50+ runs in both innings. Ollie Pope is a solid performer in the middle order who missed out on a double century in Hyderabad.
The form of some of the senior batsmen including Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Johnny Bairstow hasn’t been the best but all of them have had a very clear aggressive approach. They have been troubled by Jasprit Bumrah in this series and will be hoping to find some answers in this match.
Jack Leach is set to miss the rest of the series due to the injury he picked up in Hyderabad and no replacement has been named. This leaves the spin attack in the hands of Tom Hartley, Rehan Ahmed, and Shoaib Bashir. The team is likely to include one more seamer to join the veteran James Anderson.
Ollie Robinson is the obvious choice here and could be a really big asset for England if he can get some reverse swing going like Anderson.
